Roaming Photo Booth Activation for LoneStar Casino in Austin

Oct 25
3 min read

LoneStar Casino used a roaming photo booth with an on site print station at its F1 after party in Austin so one setup could reach every bar in a 36,000 square foot venue. Across two five hour nights of US Grand Prix weekend, about 1,000 guests came through, producing roughly 500 photos and 600 shares.

What did LoneStar Casino want for their nights at Inn Cahoots?

LoneStar Casino hosted a public F1 after party on the Friday and Saturday of race weekend. We produced the photo experience alongside RED VELVET, the experiential agency that's been building brand events out of Austin since 2002.

The brief was coverage. The party ran across several bars, and LoneStar didn't want a photo moment stuck in one corner where only part of the crowd would find it. They wanted the camera in front of as many guests as possible, with every photo doubling as a reason to talk to the brand.

How did a roaming photo booth fit a 36,000 square foot F1 after party?

Inn Cahoots spreads out across a garden, a studio event space, and a rooftop bar called IYKYK. A fixed booth would have caught whoever happened to walk past one bar. Our roaming photo booth went to the guests instead, working the garden, the studio, and the roof as the crowd moved between them.

We set the camera up with two formats. Landscape handled the big group shots and portrait handled couples and tighter frames, so our attendant could switch on the spot based on who stepped in. That mattered at a party like this, where plenty of the 500 photos were full groups.

The roamer also shot GIFs. The camera fires off a quick burst of photos in front of the branded overlay and turns them into a short looping clip, which gave guests something with more movement to post than a single still.

Every shot carried LoneStar's custom overlay, and guests picked up their prints at our print station. That pickup became the handoff. Once a guest had a photo in hand, brand ambassadors pointed them to free drinks at the bars and a giveaway they could enter, and LoneStar's marketing team collected the entries from there.

If your venue is spread across multiple spaces, keep the camera moving and keep the print station in one fixed spot. The roamer brings the brand to the guests, and the station gives your team one place where every guest stops for a minute.

What kept the line moving at LoneStar Casino's booth?

The roamer and print combo got real attention on the floor. Several guests told our team it was one of the best photo setups they'd seen in a long time, and a few called out the marketing behind it. They noticed their photo turned into free drinks and a giveaway entry, and they liked being part of it.

The crowd brought its own style too. Ford Racing tees, Longhorns jerseys, and a few early Halloween costumes all made it into the frame, and the roamer caught every bit of it.

The numbers back that up. About 600 shares came out of 500 photos, because group shots got sent to everyone in the frame.

What's our takeaway from LoneStar Casino's event?

On a big, spread out venue, the camera should travel and the prints should stay put. The roaming booth got LoneStar in front of guests on every level, and the print station turned each photo into a quick conversation with the brand.

Austin also added to our F1 track record. Our team has worked with multiple partners around the Miami Grand Prix, and this weekend took that experience to Texas. We'd run this same pairing again for any F1 weekend, multi bar party, or festival style activation.
